GENERAL DENTISTRY

At NorthShore Dental Care our role is to provide you with quality care and excellent dentistry. You and your dental practitioner, together, consider the treatment options and determine the route to achieve the best result for you. This may include restorative treatment, crowns, management of gum conditions, root canal therapy, removal of wisdom teeth and importantly, maintaining oral and general health at an optimal level through exceptional cleaning and oral hygiene.

PREVENTATIVE

The best service we can provide for you is to assist you in maintaining your oral health. Regular deep cleaning is essential. Some people require 6 monthly oral hygiene care, others, 12 monthly oral hygiene care, and this is very much determined by your own commitment to cleaning your teeth, gums and tongue, flossing between your teeth and paying some attention to your diet. We focus on preventive care to maintain your oral hygiene and maintain restorative treatment you have had in the past. Like most things in life, cleaning and maintenance is essential, and your teeth and gums are no different. I have for many years asserted that “prevention is the cure” for dental health. We will suggest the most suitable brushes and techniques to keep you in tip top dental health.

COSMETIC DENTISTRY AND TEETH WHITENING

Cosmetic dentistry can be as simple as teeth whitening: a simple process with profound effects. The cosmetic result can be stunning, however the long term result of this simple intervention is invariably that you like your teeth and smile and laugh with abandon. You will most likely pay more attention to your oral health, clean and floss regularly and there you have it: great oral health and a confident white smile. Yes, teeth whitening are a cosmetic treatment and a great pathway to optimum oral health.

Cosmetic dentistry is providing treatment with the purpose of enhancing the appearance of your teeth, face and smile. The results are gorgeous, natural appearing teeth that must enhance the individual character of your face. Cosmetic dentistry is centered on the face as a whole, taking into consideration your age, sex and facial characteristics. However first and foremost the clinical decision must maintain dental function, the way you bite and chew and the equilibrium of your jaw joints are major considerations in the choice of cosmetic treatment. The options are many and include porcelain veneers and crowns, bonded composite resin veneers and crowns, porcelain and composite bridges orthodontics and implants. Cosmetic dentistry is the science of dental function and the artistry of dental and facial aesthetics.

RESTORATIVE

Restorative treatments are to restore teeth that are diseased, decayed, fracture or chipped. Mercury based technology has not been used in this dental practice for more than 20 years and the removal of existing mercury ensures no contamination to our dental patients. The dental technology most often used is composite resin which has outstanding clinical and aesthetic tooth-coloured results. Composite resin dental restorations are the route to better smiles, less tooth loss at less cost. With good oral hygiene you can expect your restorative work to last for many years. With composite resin being such a successful dental material, the use of porcelain crowns is only required as a treatment of last resort. Porcelain crowns are expensive for the dental patient and traumatic to the tooth. Most teeth restored with porcelain crowns will require Root Canal Therapy at a later time. Composite resin dentistry is highly conservative dentistry and far less traumatic to the tooth.

PERIODONTICS

Gum Therapy is the dental diagnosis and treatment gum disease. Gum disease is the most frequent cause of tooth loss. Bleeding, red and swollen gums and bad breath are among the symptoms of gum disease and when diagnosed early can be successfully treated, ensuring your dental health and general health. There is compelling evidence linking gum disease and heart disease, gum disease and premature birth and gum disease and general health. Good periodontal health is the foundation of dental health and general health. Healthy pink gums are achieved through good oral hygiene, regularly brushing and massaging your gums and flossing between your teeth. We will assist you in treatment of chronic gum disease and maintenance of your dental hygiene to avoid gum disease.

ENDODONTICS

Root Canal Therapy is a treatment option for infection that has spread to the pulp chamber of a tooth. The infection can be the result of decay that has infected the root canals, tiny fractures that allow bacteria to enter the root chamber or trauma to the tooth and root canal tissue. A traumatised tooth will often lie dormant with no obvious symptoms until the tooth becomes very painful and the area infected. The dental treatment options are either Root Canal Therapy or extraction of the tooth. Modern dental technology used for Root Canal Therapy now means that only one appointment is required to complete the root canal therapy and contrary to popular myth, is comfortable and painless.

ORAL SURGERY

Extraction of teeth is sometimes the dental treatment of choice. Wisdom teeth only rarely erupt in place and position that enables them to be cleaned and maintained in good health. They are often impacted below or partially below the gum level where they are susceptible to repeated infection and decay and compromise the adjacent teeth. Wisdom teeth are extracted under local anaesthetic and “happy gas” and are a painless procedure in our dental practice.
