We are excited to announce we are now open and able to provide you with a range of high quality professional dental services in our newly refurbished state of the art Dental Surgery, situated on the southern outskirt of Hobart – Mount Nelson.
The following information is designed to answer any questions you may have about our services, the policies and procedures of our practice, and to alleviate any dental anxiety you may have.

Children
We provide our services to children, with a focus on prevention and education to help support and form lifelong good dental habits.

DENTAL PROCEDURES:

Fillings
These are used to replace areas of the tooth that have been removed due to teeth decay.

Dentures
When many teeth are lost or extracted, a denture may have to be fitted to maintain normal chewing, bite, speech and the appearance of the upper and lower jaws.

Wisdom Teeth
These are a valuable asset to the mouth when they are healthy and properly positioned. Often, however, problems develop that require their removal.

Root Canal
The aim of this treatment is to save a tooth that has been badly damaged due to disease, decay or injury. It is generally recommended that it be crowned afterward the procedure.

RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY

Veneers
Thin, tooth-coloured porcelain (ceramic) shells carefully crafted to bond to and cover the front of unsightly teeth, to enhance the appearance of your smile.

Crowns
The best way to protect and strengthen a tooth. A crown fits over the existing natural tooth and replaces the enamel part of the tooth above the gums
.
Bridges
These replace one or more missing teeth. An artificial tooth anchored in the gap between two teeth.

Implants
These are artificial tooth roots that are inserted into the jawbone to replace missing natural teeth. Implants and their attached crowns closely mimic the look and function of real teeth.

Teeth Whitening
A variety of products and procedures to enhance the look and feel of your smile.

Nitrous Oxide
Nitrous oxide is a form of inhalation sedation used regularly in dentistry to reduce anxiety and tension during your dental visit. Nitrous Oxide only lasts for as long as you are inhaling it, and when it is stopped, you are back to your normal self again.

PREVENTIVE THERAPY:

Mouthguards
Use a mouthguard during any activity that could result in a blow to the face or mouth. A properly fitted mouthguard can help prevent broken teeth and injuries to the lips, tongue, face or jaw.

Minimal Intervention
This is a modern dental approach designed around the principal aim of preservation of as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. We treat the underlying cause, as well as the problem.

FAMILY DENTAL TEAM

Dr. Tom Pacza is the Principal Dentist of the Mount Nelson Family Dental practice
He graduated with Honours from the University of Western Australia in 2003. Tom’s various life experiences and experiences within the field of dentistry have led him to understand that every patient’s dental needs and wants are different; but that a flexible, caring and engaging delivery of dental care, that encourages people to be their own best dentist ensures quality dentistry can be performed and maintained.
He enjoys all aspects of dentistry and enjoys seeing someone transition from being nervous and apprehensive to feeling more comfortable and relaxed while in the newly furbished surgery.

Prior to opening his new practice Tom worked in both the public and private sectors of the dental profession, sharing his time between Katherine in the Northern Territory and Tasmania’s north. He also works from time to time in India and Nepal doing volunteer dental work.

Tom also is a registered Dental Specialist and holds a Graduate Diploma in Forensic Odontology and has worked both overseas and within Australia on deployment for Disaster Victim Identification. He is a member of the Australian Dental Association and the Australian Society of Forensic Odontology.

When not at work he has many interests but is mostly busy with his family, growing vegetables and trying to not be shark bait when kite boarding or scuba diving.
