At Dr. Martin Jest Dental Surgery we want you to be relaxed and free from worry, knowing that the treatment you receive is both required, and of the best possible standard. My Ethos for the surgery is that when we do the job we do it right, and do it right first time. That doesn’t mean that we do the job the quickest in the world or that we lose the means of having you feel relaxed and cared for. Indeed we pride ourselves on giving you individual service with a smile – for a smile that you can be proud of.

Do you like to be cared for?

We like to get a 10/10 rating from our patients for sensitive and pain free dentistry, and our aim is to have you walk out from the surgery feeling more relaxed after your treatment than you would have felt possible! We achieve that by care, conversation and music to suit your taste. Indeed we frequently have patients fall asleep during root canal treatment!

What level of treatment are you looking for?

I also like you to know that I practice ‘Conservative and Cosmetic, Minimum Intervention Dentistry’.That is – If I can get away with a white filling (or restoration as we call it) for a tooth and it gives a good long term success then that is always the way to go, unless there are further cosmetic requirements that should be considered. That means that generally I view crowns as the last resort, because I like to save as much tooth tissue as possible!

About Us

There has been a Dental Surgery here at 812 Gympie Road since the 1950’s when there was a tram stop at the corner of Hamilton and Gympie Roads. How times have changed since then. The best restorations for front teeth were Gold which was very fashionable and very few people got to old age keeping most of their own teeth. Now the emphasis is on cosmetic white restorations and loosing teeth is unusual. In fact Dental Hospitals today have great difficulty finding patients for dental students to make full dentures for!

I purchased the surgery in October 2002, after having moved up from Murwillumbah, NSW where I had been working for about seven years. Since that time we have gradually expanded the patient base having people come to us from places as wide apart as Weipa, Toowoomba and The Witsundays. We even have those that live and work overseas coming back to visit their families in Brisbane and have dental treatment here! The Surgery has a General Dentistry base with solid emphasis on helping all members of the family from childhood to maturity. We love to give time to people and make sure that we treat you in an understanding and gentle way.

I am originally English by birth and qualified at King’s College Dental School in London in 1986. I met my Physiotherapist wife Bronwyn when she was on a working holiday in London and we eventually married and moved to Australia in 1990. I have since become an Australian citizen and have three Aussie children.

Our aim at the Surgery is to make your dental experience as pleasant as practically possible. I hope that by doing that I can continue to be known as Queensland’s “Most sensitive dentist”.
